I've been doing this for 15 years. In that time, we've consulted on everything from single-bore urban jobs to projects running three maxi rigs simultaneously - and even twin maxi-rig bores over 1,400 metres. The problems that derail them are usually the same ones, just at different scales.
On a pipeline project involving several major HDD crossings, we identified early issues with the proposed profiles and constructability. The original designs approached the maximum allowable horizontal and vertical curvature, which - combined with challenging site topography - created substantial execution and operational risks. After addressing the client's concerns and conducting a thorough risk assessment, the profiles were redesigned to suit the site conditions and enable safer, more efficient construction. This proactive approach prevented delays, environmental impacts, compliance breaches, and major commercial risk - ultimately ensuring a successful project delivery.

We develop and review detailed construction methodology statements that guide how work is executed on site. These documents need to be technically robust - not just compliant on paper. We've written enough of them, and reviewed enough bad ones, to know the difference.
